CHENNAI: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday asked its supporters to cast their votes for the non-Congress alliance and non-Left Parties alliance in the Thirumangalam byelection scheduled for January 9. Talking to newsmen, BJP State president, L. Ganesan said though 28 candidates were in the fray, his party members had the right to select the candidate of their choice. The BJP State unit has completed formation of 60 per cent of the booth committees in the State. Their representatives will hold meetings to hear and solve public grievances. The first such meeting was held for the Mylapore Assembly constituency on Sunday. Seven resolutions were passed at the meeting demanding the construction of a flyover at the Luz junction, earmarking vacant slots under the Mass Rapid Transit System terminals for parking, installing high-mast lamps in and around the Kapaleeswar temple pond to prevent anti-social activities, replacing 35-year-old government quarters and flats of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board and taking steps to prevent stagnation of rain water among other things. Work is on in full swing to face the Parliamentary elections in April, Mr. Ganesan said. More such meetings would be held in all 39 Parliamentary constituencies. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi would visit Chennai next month.
