A statue of B.R. Ambedkar and his followers installed at the Buddha Vihar complex in Gulbarga which will be inaugurated by the President. GULBARGA: The city is being spruced up with all major roads getting a facelift and a few roads being relaid in preparation for President Pratibha Patil’s visit on Wednesday. The President, who will arrive here by helicopter from Andhra Pradesh, will inaugurate the Buddha Vihar complex on the Gulbarga-Sedam Inter-State highway and participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society and Poojya Doddappa Appa College of Engineering. This will be preceded by the inauguration of the district Rangamandira by Ms. Patil. She will also visit the Maharana Pratap Singh Choultry. The Iwan-e-Shahi Government Guest House, where the President is likely to halt, has been given a new look by the Public Works Department. The roads on the guest house premises have been relaid and the garden around the guest house has been spruced up. The roads leading to the guest house have been repaired. The main road leading from the Railway Station to the Super Market has also been repaired. The Gulbarga-Sedam Inter-State Highway has also been given a new look as the potholes have been filled and the vegetation on either side has been cleared. The stretch of road from Buddha Vihar to S. Nijalingappa Institute of Dental Sciences on the ring road has been completely relaid. The authorities have kept this road as an alternative route for the President’s motorcade to reach S. Nijalingappa Institute of Dental Sciences Grounds where the golden jubilee celebrations of the society and college will be held. Governor Rameshwar Thakur and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who will be receiving the President at the District Reserve Police Grounds here, will accompany the President and participate in all the functions attended by her. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly M. Mallikarjun Kharge and the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh will also participate. Huge pandals are being put up at the Buddha Vihar complex and institute grounds where the President will spend 45 minutes at each venue. The pandal at the Buddha Vihar complex is designed to accommodate more than 30,000 people and the pandal at the grounds is designed to accommodate more than 10,000 people. The President is not likely to participate in any function at the Rangamandira or the Maharana Pratap Singh Choultry. The police have made foolproof security arrangements. Security personal have been drawn from neighbouring districts for duty during her visit.
