A feast for the intellect

The first of three cross-cultural conversations begins in Delhi on January 12

NEW DELHI: An extraordinary intellectual feast awaits Delhi this month as some of the world’s best-known philosophers, theologians and anthropologists joust over what constitutes human solidarity.

Billed as the first of three cross-cultural conversations, the three-day concourse will be held at India Habitat Centre, starting January 12, on the theme “Human solidarity: Visions and projects”.

Initiated by the Danish academic Anindita Balslev and supported by the Indian Council of World Affairs, the Udo Keller Foundation of Germany, and India Habitat Centre, the idea behind the venture is to explore how the technological coming together of peoples can be matched by an understanding of "the other": how can humankind really understand people of different beliefs and outlook and translate that understanding into a better and more harmonious world?

Among the participants will be the famous Italian philosopher, Gianni Vattimo; the well-known archaeologist, Sol Katz; the German philosopher, Dirk Evans; the Israeli theologian, Bob Carroll; and the Christian theologian from Germany, Reinhold Bernhardt.

The distinguished man of letters and culture, Dr. Karan Singh, will lead the Indian component.
