Property tax relief sought for residents of villages

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Jai Kishan Sharma, has sought relief from payment of property tax for residents of the Capital’s villages. He said there should be no upper limit for the area covered and that all residential self-occupied properties or those occupied by their legal heirs should be spared from having to pay tax.

Citing the reasons for grant of tax relief to these villagers, Mr. Sharma said most of them live in joint families and also need additional space for keeping their livestock and farming equipment.

He said since the villagers earn their living through their land and property, they should be spared from paying tax.
