Blasts suspect stayed in a rented house

Special Correspondent

Guwahati: The prime suspect behind the January 1 blasts in the city, Pranjal Deka alias Biju Sarania of the United Liberation Front of Asom, stayed in a rented house for a month in Rupnagar locality from October to November.

This was revealed during interrogation of the house owner, Dharanidhar Das, and two of his relatives, who were arrested by the police on Friday along with six others in connection with the blasts, police sources said.

The arrested persons were remanded to four days in police custody by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate here. However, police are yet to trace Pranjal Deka whose photo they had released on Friday.

Those arrested included eight persons from lower Assam’s Baksa district from which Pranjal hails. The police said the arrested house owner revealed that Pranjal had told him that he had come to the city to learn driving but he left his house in the last week of November.
