Call for transparency: Speaker K. Radhakrishnan inaugurates a workshop of Technical Advisory Group members at the Kerala Institute of Local Administration, Mulangunnathukavu, near Thrissur, on Saturday. Thrissur: Speaker K. Radhakrishnan has asked the local bodies to go in for development projects that benefit maximum number of people. Addressing a workshop of Technical Advisory Groups at Kerala Institute of Local Administration, Mulangunnathukavu, near here, on Saturday he said local bodies should come up with creative projects to solve the vital issues in food security and housing. “Technical Advisory Groups should ensure transparency, time-frame and effectiveness of each project. “We should learn from experience of 12 years of People’s Plan. Genuine projects should not be denied in the name of technical reasons,” the Speaker said. State Planning Board member C.P. Narayanan who presided over the function accused the local bodies of failing to utilise the funds for SC/ST and other marginalised groups. He stressed on the need for coordination of various projects in effective implementation of projects. The TAG should ensure the accountability of each project, he said.About 250 members of Technical Advisory Groups and planning officers from eight districts, from Ernakulam to Kasaragod, took part in the workshopheld to review the activities of the groups. The workshop chalked out plans for time-bound completion of projects for 2008-2009. National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme Mission Director V.N. Jithendran, Planning Board member P.V. Unnikrishnan, State Resource Group member S. Jamal, Private Secretary to Minister for Local self Government P.K. Raveendran and KILA director N. Ramakanthan participated.
