DMK rule has taken State in reverse gear: Jayalalithaa

MADURAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa began her campaign for the Thirumangalam by-election by appealing to the voters to put an end to the “anti-people and inefficient” State government and the dominance of M.K. Azhagiri in Madurai.

Kicking off her campaign at Perungudi in support of AIADMK candidate M. Muthuramalingam, she said the 31-month rule of the DMK had taken Tamil Nadu’s development in a reverse gear.

The law and order had deteriorated to such an extent that there was no protection for the life and property of the common man. Tamil Nadu, once a garden of peace, had now turned into a “haven of arms,” she said.

The anti-people policies had ruined the lives of the people from all walks of life, she said.

The inefficient administration had resulted in an unprecedented power shortage and ruined industrial production. It led to loss of jobs and salary cuts for many workers in the Kapalur industrial estate at Thirumangalam.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said that over and above the rise in the prices of many essential commodities, the increase in property tax and the collection of higher fares for low-floor buses had affected the people.

The by-election, she said, was an opportunity for the people of Thirumangalam to teach a lesson to the government and put an end to the family politics of the DMK.

Accompanied by senior leaders and former ministers, she campaigned at Weavers’ Colony, Nilayur, Parambupatti, Valayankulam and other areas on the first day.
