We are still part of UPA, says Mufti

Special Correspondent

SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Friday said his party was still part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and any decision to come out of it would be taken by the PDP’s working committee.

At a news conference here, he took strong exception to statement of Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi that the Congress rejected the PDP’s offer of unconditional support for six years. “He [Singhvi] should not have given such an irresponsible statement,” said Mr. Sayeed adding that it was the Congress’s discretion to go with the National Congress (NC). “But one thing is clear. We do not have compatibility with the UPA and the Congress as far as our ideology is concerned … We have to represent regional aspirations though we are a mainstream party.”

He said the PDP would take a decision on continuing with the UPA in the next few days.
