Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: Stolen goods worth Rs. 2.77 crore were recovered during 2008 by the police in Tiruchi Range, comprising Tiruchi Rural, Perambalur, Karur, Ariyalur and Pudukottai districts.

Of the total 1,294 property offence cases reported, the law enforcers detected as many as 1, 266 cases thereby achieving 98 per cent in overall detection and 97 percentage in the recovery of stolen goods.

The value of the property lost in the cases exceeded Rs. 2.87 crore.

All the 320 and 197 property crime cases reported in Tiruchi Rural and Perambalur districts respectively were detected with the police personnel of both districts recovering the entire stolen goods, valued at over Rs. 1 crore, from the offenders.

Highlighting the performance of the police, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range Sandeep Rai Rathore told reporters here on Thursday that there was no hesitation on the part of the police to register property crime cases as and when it was reported.

Though murder cases reported across the Range increased from 123 reported in 2007 to 133 in 2008, there was no instance of murder of rowdy elements. The motives behind majority of the murder cases were either land dispute, sexual jealousy and domestic quarrels.
