Applications invited for environmental awards

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The Department of Environment has invited applications from individuals, educational institutions and non-governmental organisations to select winners for its Environmental awards 2008.

In a statement, the Collector, K. Raghupathy said that individuals, educational institutions and educationalists could apply for the award for environmental education and awareness. NGOs and individuals could vie for the award for environmental protection and while research institutes and research scholars could apply for the environmental management award.

Only residents and organisations from Tamil Nadu were eligible for the awards and apply in separate applications for the respective awards. Winners of the awards in previous years could not apply.

Five copies of filled-in applications along with three passport size photographs, a demand draft of Rs. 100 drawn in the name of the Director, Department of Environment and sent to, Panagal Maligai, Saidapet, Chennai – 600 015.

Besides, Rs. 5,000 cash prize and certificate of appreciation would be given to the best research paper on environment for papers that were published by individuals or a team of individuals during 2008.

The last date of issue of application is January 20 and the last date of submission of filled-in application is January 31.
