KRISHNAGIRI: A Nature camp for 40 school students was jointly organised by the Sri Ramanjineya Seva Sangam from Balathottanapalli and Bangalore-based Usha Seva for three days at the Aiyyur forest area. P.S. Mohan, Coordinator of the camp said, experts talked to the participants, which included 14 girls, about protecting wild animals and astronomy. Ornithologist Dr. Harish Bhatt explained to the students about the movement of birds and Dr. M.R. Krishnamurthy explained about the stars. Experts from various fields accompanied the students into the forest and answered their queries. With the help of forest officials, students were taken inside the forest and they were told about ways to safeguard the ecology of the forest. Experts also taught the students about self-defence, how to develop leadership qualities and on ways to improve concentration power. Intelligent quotient tests were conducted for the participants. Students from Government Higher Secondary Schools at Balathottanapalli, Mittapalli, Sandhanapalli, Andevanapalli, Hosur, Megalasinnnampalli (Girls) and KGBV School, Denkanikottai, and seven students from private schools in Bangalore participated. Chief Education Officer M. Baskaran and District Education Office, Hosur, Dasaradhan congratulated the students and gave valuable advice. At the valedictory function, founder of the Usha Seva Dr. Kothandaramiah presided and Mr. Mohan proposed a vote of thanks.
