Police asked to be sensitive to woes of poor

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday asked the Police Commissionerate for Bhubaneswar-Cuttack to pay special attention to the poor so that their voices would not remain unheard.

He was addressing a meeting of police officials marking the first anniversary of the Commissionerate.

Better interface

The State government sanctioned 11 new police stations for the Commissionerate and delegated several powers for effective functioning of the system, Mr. Patnaik said. He called for better police and people interface.

Speaking on the occasion, CBI Director Aswini Kumar said that the police commissionerate system was functioning in 33 cities of the country and one year was too little period to assess the performance. He, however, advised the police commissionerate to become more sensitive towards the poor.

Orissa DGP Manmohan Praharaj underlined need for upgrading security measures for Bhubaneswar in view of an increase in terrorist violence in the country.

Pramod Rath, Inspector in-charge of Malgodam police station, was adjudged best police inspector while Alok Jena was named best Sub Inspector for their performances.
