Dindigul
ACTION SOUGHT: CPI(M) cadres staging a demonstration in Dindigul on Friday. DINDIGUL: Cadres of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday laid a siege to the Dindigul municipality and later staged a demonstration in front of it demanding proper implementation of underground drainage project and streamlining drinking water supply. Dindigul MLA K. Balabarathi, in her address, criticised the municipality for “not implementing the project properly.” She alleged that the contractors did not fill the pits properly after completing the project in many areas. Several roads were full of bumps and potholes. More over, one of the contractors stopped the work. The municipal administration did not take any effort to resume it, she alleged. Despite three major drinking water projects, water supply was erratic. For example, residents in R.M.Colony did not get water even once in 15 days. Several areas received water once in 10 days only. While damaged pipeline hit water supply from the Athoor Kamarajar dam, the Peranai scheme at Nilakottai completely paralysed. Power shortage hit the Cauvery drinking water project. Why the municipality did not take any step till date, she asked. The cadres raised slogans against the municipality.
