The police inspecting the vehicle used by the “criminals” near Karimnagar on Friday. KARIMNAGAR: Two persons, wanted in connection with several crimes in Hyderabad city, were shot dead in an alleged encounter with the police at Lower Manair Dam reservoir on the outskirts of Karimnagar on Friday evening. Police recovered a revolver, an air-pistol, two knives, four live rounds, a stolen car and three cellular phones from the scene of the ‘encounter’. Superintendent of Police Y. Gangadhar told reporters that on the credible information given by the Hyderabad Task Force about the movement of Hyderabad-based criminals near the LMD reservoir area, special police parties led by two sub-inspectors rushed to the spot and tried to intercept their car. “The criminals, however, fled after opening fire at the police parties.” The police returned fire leading to injuries to Shah Murtuza Kadri alias Mental Murtaza and his associate Shaffi Hussain. The victims succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the government headquarters hospital. The SP said that Murtaza was arrested by the Task Force in August 2009 and later released on bail. Murtaza and his associate were involved in two murders, robbery of Rs. 7 lakh from Nallagutta, Rs. 2 lakh from Begumbazar and Rs. 2 lakh from Saidabad. When the police intercepted the car, a woman was also travelling along with the duo, but she escaped during the exchange of fire, the SP said.
