Central zone first in crime detection: DIG Rathore

THANJAVUR: There has been a better percentage of detection of cases and recovery of property in Central Zone in the year 2008 and it stood number one in the whole state, said Mr. Sandeep Rai Rathore, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi range, who is in-charge of Thanjavur Range also here on Thursday.

Quick response teams

Mr. Rathore said that in the wake of Mumbai terror strikes, Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been formed in all the districts in the central zone to deal with emergency situations.

Detection rate

Till November 2008, percentage of detection in Central Zone comprising Tiruchi and Thanjavur ranges, was 90 per cent and recovery was 81 per cent which is better compared to other zones , the DIG said.

Mr. Rathore told presspersons here that registration of cases has been good as people were now coming forward without fear to register cases. With respect to Thanjavur range comprising of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts, percentage of detection in 2008 was 87 per cent and percentage of recovery was 81 per cent.

Detection was 81 per cent and recovery 70 per cent in Thanjavur district, 86 and 82 per cent in Tiruvarur district, and 94 per cent and 92 per cent in Nagapattinam district.

Number of property offences reported in the range was 1,177 and cases detected was 995. Value of property lost was Rs. 3.61 crore and value of property recovered was Rs. 2.72 crore.

Number of persons detained under Goondas Act was 76 and number of persons detained under Bootleggers Act was 76. Number of Motor Vehicles petty cases booked was 52,300. Fine collected was Rs. 1.20 crore. Total number of prohibition cases reported in the range was 13,396 and persons arrested were 12,697 (men 10,773 and women 1,924).

One hundred and thirty seven murder cases were reported in Thanjavur range of which 132 have been detected.
