CHENNAI: An elderly couple were found dead with cut injuries in their house in Saidapet on Thursday. The house near the Saidapet Railway Station was ransacked and valuables are suspected to be missing.

According to police, G. Anantha Krishnan (60) and his wife, Yamuna Bai (55), residents of the apartment complex on Jones Road near Karneeswarar Temple, were found with their throats slit.

The deceased resided on the second floor of the ‘B’ block of the ‘Temple View’ complex, which has 26 apartments and some shops on the ground floor.

The death came to light after Anjalai, employed as a sweeper in the complex, complained of foul smell near their apartment. She alerted their neighbour Devarajan, who is the secretary of the Temple View Apartment Residents’ Association. As a duplicate key was available with Mr.Devarajan, the door of the apartment was opened and the police were informed.

Govindammal, the couple’s domestic help, said she found the door locked for three days consecutively since Tuesday.

Police suspect that the childless couple were probably killed on Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Anantha Krishnan retired from the Integral Coach Factory, while his wife was a Central government employee working in Shastri Bhavan.

On Thursday morning, a police dog ran up to a distance and lost the trail. Forensic experts have lifted finger prints from the house.

The Kumaran Nagar police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating.

Police do not rule out the possibility of those behind the murder of S.Saravanan, a retired TAMIN official, his wife and their domestic help in November in K. K. Nagar area, to be involved in this double murder too.
