IN SAFE CONFINES: Puppies rescued by the Samrakshana Animal Welfare Society.

TIRUCHI: But for animal lovers, six orphaned pups would have died of cold and hunger. The mother had died soon after delivering the pups recently in the campus of Bharathidasan University.

Acting on information, Samrakshana Animal Welfare Society and the International Animal Rescue (IAR) Centre rescued the pups. Chancing upon the pups after hearing their feeble moaning sounds, two research scholars – Asser and Surjith, Members of the Kollam Chapter of People for Animals – contacted Samrakshana for help.

Awaiting adoption

A team of Samrakshana took the pups to the IAR Centre at Echikamalapatti near K.K. Nagar, where food and medicines were administered.

Samrakshana Vice-President K.G. Meenakshi said that animal lovers have already adopted two pups, and the rest were awaiting adoption. Aspiring pet lovers could contact Jothiraj, the veterinarian who headed the team that saved the pups, at the dial of 0431 – 2914184.

Samrakshana Animal Welfare Society, which also rescued a wounded and emaciated dog lying uncared for in K.K. Nagar on the same day, based on the information provided by the research scholars, is keen on attracting many animal lovers into its fold.
