Plea to expedite BG conversion
The Tiruchi Nala Amaippugal Maanagara Valarchi Aarvalargal has urged for expediting the Mayiladuthurai – Villupuram broad gauge conversion work. It has sought the intervention of the Prime Minister for completing the project as early as possible. In a press release, its coordinator N. Ramakrishnan said steps should be taken to complete the Mayiladuthurai – Villupuram gauge conversion work before the Tamil New Year as this section was a life line for Thanjavur and the erstwhile South Arcot districts. The delay in its completion was affecting agricultural economy and the tourism sector. The railway administration should also take steps to expedite the electrification work up to Tiruchi, he said in the statement.
