Child workers sent home from farm

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Two children from Andhra Pradesh working in the farm of the former Minister H.D. Revanna at Haradanahalli were sent back to their native places along with their parents.

Narasaiah (13) and Subbarayadu (13) were a part of the group of people from Prakasam District in Andhra Pradesh who were brought to work in the farms at Haradanahalli. Members of BOSCO tracked the children at the City Railway Station in November. They were sent to the Boy’s Home off Hosur Road. On Thursday, the parents of Narasaiah and Subbarayadu appeared before the Child Welfare Committee. The parents were accompanied by Laxminarasaiah, the contractor who had brought the children for work.

Mr. Laxminarasiah told the committee he had brought the children to work in two farms at Haradanahalli, including the one owned by Mr. Revanna. “I committed the mistake. I did not know the implications. These children are from my hometown,” he said.
