Railway union opposes privatisation move

Staff Reporter

Chennai: S.G. Mishra, secretary, All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF), has warned the Union government of industrial action and stoppage of work if it went ahead with the privatisation of the Indian Railways through the corporate route.

Mr. Mishra participated in a meeting organised by the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) at the Moore Market Complex here on Wednesday. He explained in detail the federation’s importance in getting productivity-linked bonus and 40 per cent arrears for the railwaymen in the Sixth Pay Commission.

N. Kanniah, assistant secretary, AIRF, remembered the contribution of late J.P. Chaubey, who was former secretary of the federation, for getting benefits to the railwaymen in the Sixth Pay Commission. SRMU president C.A. Raja Sridhar also spoke.
