CHENNAI: Host Tamil Nadu won the ‘fairplay’ trophy, the only prize that is given to the best performer in the AIFF under-14 girls’ National football festival which ended at the Hindustan University campus on Thursday. Tamil Nadu beat Bengal 8-2 in the last match in the second phase to clinch the trophy. The team led 5-2 in the first half. For Tamil Nadu, midfielder Radha scored three goals and striker Catherine, who had a good run in this tournament, scored two. Aparna (2) and Mythili were the other scorers. For West Bengal, Puja Ghosh scored the goals. Inclusive of the points derived from ‘skill tests’ and performances in the ‘cultural show’, Tamil Nadu logged 60 points to top the table. Manipur, Goa and Maharashtra shared the second place with 45 points each. — Special Correspondent
