‘No threat to independent MLAs’
Special Correspondent
Bangalore: The victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Assembly byelections winning five of the eight segments achieving the much-needed majority in the lower House would not pose any threat to the six independent MLAs, five of whom became Ministers in the B.S. Yeddyurappa Government.
Reacting to the results, which boosted the morale of the ruling party, Small Scale Industries and Sericulture Minister Venkataramanappa and Women and Child Welfare Minister P.M. Narendra Swamy said that they were happy that the voters reposed confidence in the BJP. Asked whether the BJP victory would affect their interest, the Ministers said that there was no question of any insecurity to their positions, as they had helped the ruling party, when it required to muster majority.
Mr. Venkataramanappa said that he had faith in Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. Speaking after inaugurating an exhibition of Mysore silk saris, organised by Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation, he said: “We (independent MLAs) are supporting the government and that the government will support us. We want the government to complete its term.”
