HUBLI: Truckers will go on nation-wide strike against increase in the prices of the truck tyres and to press for their various other demands from the midnight of January 4. In a press release issued here on Wednesday, State president and national vice-president of the All India Truckers’ Federation B.R. Shanmugappa has said that the federation had submitted memoranda to the tyre companies in advance on the issue. He has said that in spite of the reduction in the prices of rubber in the global market, the tyre manufacturing companies had failed to reduce the prices of tyres. Instead, they had increased the prices, thereby further increasing the burden on the truckers. Mr. Shanmugappa said that the All India Motor Transport Congress held at Indore in Madhya Pradesh on December 17 had resolved to take the path of agitation if there was no positive response from the tyre manufacturers. Now since there were no positive developments, the federation had decided to go ahead with the strike, he added.
