Call for right response to terrorism

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The death of young Mohammed Mukarram Pasha, who died after being shot at in an Army compound in the city on the suspicion that he was a terrorist, reflected the growing culture of paranoia, Vimochana, an NGO and a forum for women’s rights, has said.

“The sentries reportedly shot him instead of catching him, not only because he was an intruder but more because they heard him speak in Urdu! The brutal killings in Mumbai were horrific but the tragedy of families who lose their loved ones is now being used to whip up public opinion towards militaristic solutions,” its press release stated. The organisation called for a response to terrorism that is as much political as it is moral, ethical and human.
