Bidar
BIDAR: From Friday, residents of Bidar city will have to pay Rs. 100 per month for availing themselves of water from the City Municipal Council. Earlier, the residents used to pay Rs. 55 a month for water supply. A release on Thursday from Municipal CommissionerThippesh here said that the increase in water tax will enable the municipal council to have a systematic water supply system in the city. A resolution was passed by councillors to increase the water tax at a meeting on November 14. Mr. Thippesh told The Hindu that the municipal council had to pay Rs. 9 lakh a month to Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board for water supply in the city. The municipal council was earning Rs. 4 lakh a month from residents in the form of water tax and there was a mismatch. To reduce the margin, the increase in water tax was effected. ResolutionMunicipal vice-president Philoman Raj Prasad said the resolution was passed to increase the water tax keeping in mind the financial position of the municipal council. “The increase in water tax would not burden the common man and the increase is high,” he said. However, the council had passed another resolution seeking withdrawal of bulk water supply from KUWS&DB citing that the amount charged by KUWS&DB was high for a small city such as Bidar, he said. The Executive Engineer of KWS&DB, Bidar, Younus Basha, said that the board had not received a copy of the resolution passed by the councillors and they would continue bulk water supply in the city.
