Thrissur: The twentieth death anniversaries of theatre personalities G. Sankarappillai and Safdar Hashmi were observed at the Kerala Sahithya Akademi on Thursday. Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi chairman K.M. Raghavan Nambair delivered the G. Sankarappillai memorial lecture at the function organised by Rangachethana. Director-actor from Kashmir M.K. Raina spoke about Safdar Hashmi’s works and his contribution to the Indian political theatre. This year’s G. Sankarappillai Memorial Award was presented to journalist A.U. Praveen. ‘Prathyaya Sasthravum Natakavum’ written by N.R. Gramaprakash was released. International Theatre Festival of Kerala director J. Shailaja was also honoured.
