TV actor Rakesh Kathuria was abducted in Mumbai NEW DELHI: Four persons have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police for allegedly kidnapping a television actor and his younger brother for ransom. The accused managed to extort Rs.6.5 lakh in cash, gold jewellery and a laptop in return for their release. Actor Rakesh Kathuria, a resident of Rohini Sector 16, had gone to attend the launch of a Hindi movie in Mumbai when one Yusuf Pathan contacted him over phone from Delhi on May 12 in connection with the staging of a fashion show. Since Rakesh was busy with the film launch, Yusuf asked him to send his younger brother Manish Kathuria for a meeting at PVR Plaza parking in Connaught Place. Yusuf also told Rakesh to meet his representative at “In orbit” Mall in Mumbai. When Rakesh reached at the given address, four persons abducted him, blindfolded him and took him to a flat in Goregaon. His brother Manish was also kidnapped in a similar fashion when he reached Connaught Place. Both brothers were made to speak to each other and tortured. The accused released Manish after midnight to arrange for Rs.25 lakh in ransom for the safe release of his elder brother. Manish could arrange only Rs.6.5 lakh, some gold jewellery and a laptop. The accused also withdrew some cash using debit cards of the victims and took away their mobile phones. On being released, Rakesh flew back to Delhi and reported the matter to the Crime Branch. Taking up investigation, the police team arrested Adil Nawaz Khan (26), who is associated with film production. His other accomplices Yusuf, Kasif and Rohit were later arrested from the Santa Cruz area of Mumbai. Rakesh, who is popularly known as Babla, has been in the television industry for more than 15 years and worked in serials like “Dekh Bhai Dekh”, “Durgesh Nandani”, “Preet” and “Tauba Tauba”.
