Elaborate traffic plan for New Year’s Eve

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: To ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic on New Year’s Eve, the Delhi traffic police have come up with certain guidelines and modified vehicular flow around Connaught Place on Wednesday.

As part of the special arrangements, no vehicles will be allowed in the Inner, Middle and Outer Circles of Connaught Place from 7-30 p.m. onward on Wednesday till the conclusion of the celebrations. No vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond Mandi House roundabout, Bengali Market roundabout, north foot of Ranjit Singh flyover, Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing, Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk (New Delhi railway station), R.K. Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing, Gole Market roundabout, Gole Dak Khana roundabout, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Road-Feroze Shah Road crossing and Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib lane.

Commuters have been advised to take alternative routes to their destinations. Limited parking space will be made available near Connaught Place on first come first served basis.

Motorists coming out of Connaught Place can use the following roads to go to their destination: Sansad Marg, Janpath, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Barakhamba Road, Minto Road, Panchkuian Road, Bhagat Singh Marg and Baba Kharak Singh Marg. Those visiting hotels within the restricted area have been issued separate parking labels along with the invitation cards. They may access the Connaught Place area through Barakhamba Road, Kasturba Gandhi Road, Janpath and Parliament Street.

Besides, the traffic police will check drunken driving. “We have set up pickets everywhere in the city. People violating traffic rules will be caught by the joint teams of traffic police and district police. Mobile vans equipped with alco-metres will be stationed at several places to check drunk driving,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S.N. Shrivastava.
