Rs. 84 crore for gram panchayats

BANGALORE: In the third quarter of the financial year 2008-09, the Government has released Rs. 84.42 crore for 5,628 gram panchayats in the State. Each gram panchayat would get Rs. 1.50 lakh.

The State Budget has set aside Rs. 337.68 crore grants for gram panchayats. The funds would be utilised for payment of salary of staff and electricity bills of October, November and December, said a government circular.

The district-wise release of funds for gram panchayats is as follows: Rs. 1.29 crore for Bangalore Urban, Rs. 1.47 crore for Bangalore Rural, Rs. 2.77 crore for Chitradurga, Rs. 2.34 crore for Kolar, Rs. 3.90 crore for Shimoga, Rs. 4.81 crore for Tumkur, Rs. 3.52 crore for Mysore, Rs. 3.39 crore for Chikmagalur, Rs. 3.04 crore for Dakshina Kannada, Rs. 3.87 crore for Hassan, Rs. 1.47 crore for Kodagu.

A sum of Rs. 3.48 crore for Mandya, Rs. 7.27 crore for Belgaum, Rs. 2.98 crore for Bijapur, Rs. 1.90 crore for Dharwad, Rs. 3.09 crore for Uttara Kannada, Rs. 5.05 crore for Gulbarga, Rs. 2.83 crore for Bellary.

A sum of Rs. 2.62 crore for Bidar, Rs. 2.46 crore for Raichur, Rs. 3.45 crore for Davangere, Rs. 1.95 crore for Ramanagaram, Rs. 2.26 crore for Chikkaballapur, Rs. 1.80 crore for Chamarajanagar, Rs. 2.19 crore for Udupi, Rs. 2.44 crore for Bagalkote, Rs. 1.59 crore for Gadag, Rs. 3.12 crore for Haveri and Rs. 2.01 crore for Koppal, the circular said.

The Begluam district has the highest number of gram panchayats (485).
