TIRUCHI: Thirteen high and higher secondary schools in the district will witness a fillip to infrastructure and sanitation facilities during this fiscal with Rs. 16.32 crore assistance from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Besides additional classrooms, laboratories, toilets and drinking water provision, two among these schools will have compound walls, according to the Chief Educational Officer K. Swaminathan. Of the total of nine phases of NABARD funding for the purpose in various districts over the years, Tiruchi district is receiving the assistance for the fourth time. In the earlier three phases, the department spent nearly Rs. 25 crore for developing the facilities in 46 schools. AmbienceAn ambience at a par with Government-aided schools had been created in these schools, the CEO said. The School Education department is certain that such an ambience is vital for enhancing the self-esteem of students studying in Government schools located in remote rural parts and, more importantly, to eliminate the scope for dropouts. Rise in enrolments
In fact, student enrolments had risen significantly in these schools after enhancement of facilities, said Mr. Swaminathan. The Government schools that have been chosen to benefit from NABARD funding this year include Arasanilaipalayam Government Higher Secondary School and Thuvarankurichi Boys’ HSS in Tiruchi educational district. Pullambadi Government HSS and Lalgudi Government Boys HSS are among the six schools in Lalgudi educational district and Pulivalam Government HSS is the only school in Musiri educational district to receive NABARD funding.
