Police to ensure crime-free celebrations
Staff Reporter
Chennai: The police have taken several precautions to ensure that the New Year celebrations are crime-free and accident free, a press release said.
Security will be increased at noon on Wednesday and police personnel will be deputed in large numbers across the city. Action would be taken against those indulging in rash driving, driving without helmet, going ‘triples’ on motorbikes or drunken driving.
Policemen and women in plainclothes have been deputed to keep an eye on those who cause nuisance to the public or harass women. People who consume liquor on the beaches or found with bottles of liquor will be arrested, the release said.
Parking would be strictly restricted to designated zones on main roads and illegally parked vehicles would be towed away. Families who visit public places to celebrate have been urged to be extra careful with their possessions and take care of children.
