Sir, At Kumbakonam auto-fare has been exorbitant between railway station and the bus stand. The passengers have to shell out atleast Rs. 30 to cover the short distance. I request the transport authorities to introduce share auto facility between railway station and bus stand. R. Kumaravelu, Kumbakonam. Introduce trains with immediate effectWe are happy to learn that the Commissioner of Railway Safety has cleared the newly laid BG track between Tiruvarur and Nagore for regular traffic. The Railways should introduce trains in this track with immediate effect as the people have been suffering very much for a long time. The Railways could have a formal inauguration with much fanfare by inviting the Chief Minister at a later date. D. Rajeswari, Nagapattinam. Land for library sought Mannargudi is a town in Tiruvarur district with a population of more than one lakh. The Government library here is functioning in a rented building and the place is not adequate enough. I request the Mannargudi Municipality to allot a site for the government library in the heart of the town. V. Dharmadoss, Tiruvarur. Start direct trainsThe new BG line between Tiruvarur and Nagore will be shortly thrown open for regular services, as the inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety is over. I request the Railway Authorities to start direct trains to Mumbai and New Delhi from Nagore via Thanjavur, Tiruchi and Erode, for the benefit of devotees and the people of the delta districts. A. M. Mohamed Jabarulla, Thanjavur - 7. Run town busesI have been writing to the Regional Transport Officer, Karur to order introduction of town/mini buses to Industrial Estate from Karur Bus Stand via railway station, since 2002, but with no response. I request the District Collector to do the needful. R. S. Moorthy, Karur-4. Make the pond usableA pond located at the corner of Main Road and Old Post Office Road near the Bus Stand has been overflowing ever since the start of the monsoon. Excess rainwater and sewage water feed the pond. Usually it is fully covered with algae and not usable. Now the overflowing water crosses the Old Post Office Road and stagnates behind the bus stand. As a result, the road has been eroded. Moreover this causes a germ-infested environment . Hence the authorities concerned should take steps to protect the environment and make the pond usable. Haja Abdul Khader, Adirampattinam. Withdraw buses in bad conditionMany of the buses of the Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation are in bad condition. Passengers expect comfortable journey. I request the Corporation to withdraw all such buses and put on road only ultra-deluxe and A/C buses on long distance routes. K. Santhanam, Kumbakonam.
