It’s time for new year celebrations

It was Christmas and New Year celebrations in Madurai schools during last week when they closed for half-yearly recess. In most of the schools, tiny tots provided colour to the celebration in Santa Claus costume. It was also an occasion to rejoice and recall the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. P. Aparna, correspondent, presided over the celebration at S. P. J. Matriculation School, Avaniapuram. J. Arul Prakaash, Principal, proposed a vote of thanks.

The celebration at Vimal Vidyalaya, Anna Nagar, featured a talk on Christmas by M. Vijayalakshmi, correspondent.

J. Vasanthan, former Professor of English, American College, in his Christmas Day address at Motherland Nursery and Primary School, Viswanathapuram, stressed the need for people to learn the art of giving and sharing in the true spirit of Christmas.

Children would learn the joy of giving by sharing happiness with others. Nicholas Francis, Director of the school, presided.

Padmini Vasanthan distributed Christmas gifts to Kindergarten students.

Hannah Cecil, Principal, welcomed the gathering and Ramya, teacher, proposed a vote of thanks.

Songs and dance featured Christmas celebration at Sivakasi Nadars Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ellis Nagar. The celebration was intended to make the children realise the simplicity of Jesus Christ and his love for mankind. The students were happy to receive gifts from Santa Claus.
