Two held for selling spurious IMFL

Staff Reporter

PUDUKOTTAI: Two youths were arrested on a charge of selling spurious Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at wine-shop bars in and around Aranthangi on Monday.

The youths, C. Kumar (30) of Kaanadu in the district and K. Jothi (28) of Ramanathapuram, were arrested during the course of a vehicle check-up at Meemisal, a coastal village on Sunday after the police had intercepted a four-wheeler and seized seven cans containing the ‘IMFL.’ On interrogation, police seized nine more cans in Aranthangi where the ‘liquor’ was manufactured at a residence hired by a group of youths a few months ago.

Police said that while a couple of youths prepared the ‘liquor,’ the others were selling it in retail at the bars. Those arrested were remanded to 15 days’ judicial custody. The Meemisal Police have registered a case and are on the search for two others at large.
