Traders demand better amenities
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: Electronic goods traders on Ritchie Street, off Anna Salai, have requested the government agencies to improve civic amenities in the market by providing garbage clearance facilities, public toilets and better stormwater drain network.
Addressing press persons here on Monday, All India Radio and Electronic Association (South Zone) president Mahaveer Bhandari said that they had already sent representations to the Chennai City Traffic Police and Chennai Corporation last year but were yet to receive a response from them.
He said, “The streets of the market area are narrow and clogged with haphazardly parked vehicles and heavy traffic. The street vendors add to our woes by blocking all the space on the roads.”
The traders also complained about the poor condition of roads that were battered following the torrential rain last month. He said business got affected due to these conditions.
