Eluru
No floodwater this! A car zooms through a huge puddle of water caused by leakage of municipal water supply lines near Police Kalyana Mantapam in Eluru on Monday. ELURU: The huge puddle of water at the church centre in the fire station-Ashoknagar section of the Jangareddygudem road seemingly made the road users wonder whether the city was battered with a heavy downpour by the time they woke up on Monday. But it’s not the rain but the leakage of water supply pipelines that led the main road to be water-logged with drinking water being supplied to the colonies around from a reservoir of the Municipal Corporation of Eluru at Ameenapet, spilling over to the road. Vehicles were seen zooming through the puddle. According to official sources from the MCE, the pipeline was burst last night at an interconnection which supplies water to the reserve police lines from the main reservoir. As a result, the residents from these areas were deprived of water supply right from morning to the evening. The residents of Ashok Nagar, Etigarru and Ramalayam centre also had a similar experience. Appala Raju, Assistant Engineer, water supply division of the MCE, said a team of workers were pressed into service for restoration of water supply who were on the job right from the morning. He hoped water supply would be restored by Monday evening.
