Lawyers stay away from courts in Salem

SALEM: Lawyers in Salem district have begun their three-day boycott of court proceedings on Monday demanding the establishment of apex court bench in Chennai and insisting adequate representation for senior lawyers practising in district courts in the appointment of judges in the Madras High Court.

The Federation of District and Subordinate Courts Bar Associations of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry called the protest. It was essential to set up the bench of the Supreme Court in Chennai to quickly process the cases, lawyers said.
