Netaji SC keeps winning

CHENNAI: Netaji SC edged promoted team Don Bosco Annai Youth 2-1 to record its third win in as many matches in the St. Joseph’s-CFA senior division league at the floodlit Nehru stadium on Sunday.

Annai Youth had actually gone ahead in the 26th minute when the team’s Nigerian recruit, Kelechi found the net from 30 yards out.

However, within six minutes, parity was restored thanks to a touch of opportunism by Kamesh. He intercepted a pass from the opposing team’s Sudhakar and quickly switched the ball to Nigerian player Hetieryo, who slammed it in.

Then came the most important moment of the contest when Hitieryo provided a tailor-made cross from left flank to find Kamesh ready to connect and score the match winner.

With three wins, Netaji has collected nine points while Annai Youth fell to its third loss in five outings. It has won two to be on six points.

There will be no match in the senior division, as well as first division, on Monday. — Special Correspondent
