SALEM: Power supply to the following areas will remain disrupted between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on December 30 owing to maintenance works at Taramangalam sub-station: Taramangalam, Thuttampatti, Kadampatti, Sikkampatti, Tholasampatti, Amarakunthi, Pavalathanur, Athikattanur, K.R. Thoppur, Azhagusamudram, Karukkalvadi, Krishnamputhur, Maramangalathupatti, Konakkapatti and Kottamedu. Fatally knocked downSALEM: A two-year-old girl child was fatally knocked down by a lorry at Annathanapatti here on Saturday. Police said the child Narmatha was playing near her home when the accident took place. She died on the spot. A case was registered. LPG cylinders seizedSALEM: A team of revenue officials seized eight domestic LPG cylinders, which were found being used for commercial purposes in the city on Saturday. Sources said the team raided a number of tea shops, roadside eateries and restaurants in various parts of the city and seized eight domestic gas cylinders from shops. Legal action would be initiated against the shopkeepers who misused the cooking gas cylinders, officials said. Run over by trainATTUR: A cotton trader died when a speeding train hit him near here on Saturday. Railway police said Krishnan (38), a resident of Puthupet, was trying to cross the tracks, when the accident occurred. He died on the spot. A case was registered. Killed in accidentSALEM: A man was killed and another sustained serious injuries when a mini-bus collided with a motorcycle near Omalur on Saturday. Aruldas (35), a resident of Narnampalayam village, and his friend Arulappan (35) were on the way to Omalur, when the accident took place. The two sustained injuries and were rushed to a private hospital. Later, Arulappan was shifted to Salem Government Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to wounds. Omalur police registered a case.
