Policeman found dead on track

JOLARPET: The body of a 32-year-old policeman attached to the Armed Force at Chennai was found lying at the railway track at Vengili village in between Pachaikuppam and Melpatti near Ambur on Friday evening. He had died due to severe head injury.

Railway workers found the body while inspecting the track. The dead man was identified as Rajakannu belonging to Salem. Police said that the deceased had been travelling to Salem through Chennai- Salem Express. The train was claimed to be overcrowded. Hence the Policeman was standing near the foot board of the train. Police further said that Rajakannu could have smashed his head against an electric post close to the track. Jolarpet Railway Police have registered a case.

The body was sent to the Ambur Government Hospital for post-mortem. _ Staff Reporter
