Delhi chills at 6.5 degrees

NEW DELHI: It was another chilly morning for Delhiites on Saturday with the minimum temperature hovering around 6 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day.

The mercury was recorded at a minimum of 6.5 degrees, up by 0.1 degree from Friday, which is one degree below the normal temperature for this time of the year, said the Meteorological Department in the Capital.

The season’s lowest temperature of 6.4 degrees was recorded on Friday.

The weathermen forecast another cold Sunday for the Capital’s citizens with the maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 23 and 7 degrees Celsius respectively.

“Current meteorological analysis suggests that there will be no significant change in the minimum temperature in the next two-three days,” a senior MeT Department official said.

According to the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, the minimum temperature will be around 8 degrees for the next three days.

Compared to last December, it is warmer this time round with the minimum hovering above 5 degrees. Last year, many days in December witnessed the minimum temperature plummeting below 5 degrees.

Last year the coldest day in December was recorded on the 29th when the mercury dipped to 3.9 degrees. The coldest day for the month was recorded on December 26, 1945, when the minimum temperature was 1.1 degrees. - PTI
