Missing Australian grabbed by shark

SYDNEY: Authorities launched a massive search operation on Saturday for a missing man police suspect was attacked by a shark while snorkeling in Western Australia.

Brian Guest, 51, was looking for crabs on Saturday morning with his 24-year-old son off a beach in Port Kennedy, about 50 km south of Perth, when he suddenly disappeared.

“It’s believed he’s been taken by a shark,” Western Australia state police Sgt. Greg Lambert said. Guest’s son told police he saw “commotion” in the water before his father vanished, Mr. Lambert said. The young man quickly swam to shore and sounded the alarm.

The beach was immediately closed. Several marine rescue patrols and at least three helicopters began scouring the waters for the missing father . Searchers have discovered a piece of a wet suit believed to be Guest’s in the water, The search was continuing. —AP
