District Crime Records Bureau instructed to collect profiles of anti-socials of neighbouring districts, writes R. Rajaram Furthering efforts to expand the database of criminals and keep their activities under check, the law enforcing authorities have instructed the District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB) of every district to collect and maintain detailed profiles of anti-socials of neighbouring districts as well for ready hand information during times of investigation. Equipped with a wealth of crime-related information, the DCRB wing of every district maintains records of criminals involved in property offences and law and order cases of that district as well as their modus operandi. At a time when criminal activities of anti-socials have been extending beyond the jurisdiction of a particular district, the DCRBs have now been asked to be in the know-how of offenders of their neighbouring districts as well by maintaining their profiles. Update informationThe Deputy Superintendents of Police, heading the DCRBs, have been asked to get in touch with their counterparts of their neighbouring districts to collect information of criminals and update them from time to time so as to expand the computerised database of anti-socials. Alongside this the Inspectors of District Special Branches (SB), which is equipped with complete information about criminals primarily involved in law and order cases, have been directed to keep a tab on those newer elements involved in different types of crimes and go after them. Having the intelligence apparatus under them, the SB Inspectors have also been instructed to collect information regarding absconding law and order criminals and their whereabouts besides their key associates. These points were emphasised during separate meetings the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone Karan Singha had with the officers of DCRBs and SB Inspectors of eight districts falling with the zone here on Wednesday and Friday respectively. IG Karan Singha said concerted efforts launched over the past few months led to the execution of several non-bailable warrants that were pending for long. The number of warrants pending had fallen below the 1,000 mark now, said Mr. Karan Singha. Coordination with the Immigration authorities enabled the police to pick up four absconding persons working abroad and against whom warrants had been pending upon their arrival in Chennai. ReviewHe said the Superintendents of Police have been asked to review the warrants pending in their respective districts besides reviewing the suspicious death cases registered under the Section 174 Cr. PC during the monthly meeting. The Deputy Superintendents of Police have been instructed to visit the police stations falling within their Sub Division and review the pending trial cases. He said as many as 121 law and order criminals and 81 property offenders were detained under the Goondas Act in the current year so far and cases had been booked against over 20,000 persons under various provisions of the Security Act across the Central Zone so far this year.
