Don’t politicise engineer’s murder, says Congress

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday expressed the view that while it wanted action against those responsible for the murder of a PWD engineer in Uttar Pradesh, there should be no politics over it.

Citing the statement of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said the Amethi MP made it clear there should no politics over the murder.

The party also demanded that the members of the bereaved family be given all support they needed.

Mr. Ahmed rejected the Samajwadi Party’s charge that Congress workers did not join the bandh organised in the State in protest against the murder.

He said many party members were present at various places. The Congress had a distinct identity from the SP, he added.

The Congress and the SP have held at least two rounds of talks on seat-sharing for the next year’s general election. However, the talks have not progressed in the wake of differences over the number of seats they should be sharing.
