250 swimmers for short course meet

MYSORE: The De Paul International Residential School, Mysore, will host the IX State short-course championships for boys and girls from Saturday.

The three-day championship is expected to see around 250 swimmers from all over the State take part in the four groups (Group I to IV).

Around 40 events are slated for the first day, split into two sessions and the meet is expected to see some fierce competition as it is the selection trials for the State team for the South Zone championship scheduled to be held in Chennai (January 16-18, 2009).

R. Prajwal (Group I), Prasidh Kumar and R. Shreyas (Group II), M. Aravind and Akash Rohit (Group III), B. Rajeev and S.P. Likith (Group IV) in the boys’ section are the ones to watch.

In the girls’ section, sisters Madhuri Giri and Madhavi Giri, Sujatha Pratap (Group I), Bhoomi R. Motwani, S. Meghana (Group II), Tulasi R. Hartsa, Aishwarya Bhandari (Group III) and Tamini Gowda and V. Malavika (Group IV) are among the favourites.
