Drive against road rules violations

Coimbatore: The Transport Department, Coimbatore Circle, in a drive against violation of road rules checked 1,051 vehicles and registered cases against 172 vehicles.
The checks were conducted at eleven places in Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris districts.
During the drive four vehicles were detained.
A sum of Rs 67,015 was collected as fine and Rs 1,12,405 as compounding fee.
Compounding fee
The authorities also proposed a compounding fee of Rs 2,07,700 to be realised by the respective registering authorities after procedural formalities. The authorities also registered 62 cases of over-speeding on arterial roads such as Mettuppalayam Road, Pollachi Road and Avanashi Road.
