Siddarth to meet Raghavendra in final

BANGALORE: The day belonged to Sarthak Siddarth as the baseliner took the under-14 singles title with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over the Hubli lad Evans Mirajkar.

Siddarth also entered the boys’ under-16 singles with 6-1, 6-0 win over Nikhil Reddy in the Mahaila Seva Samaja AITA Talent Series tennis championship at MSS courts here on Sunday.

In the under-14 final, Siddarth’s ploy was straight and simple, he hung onto the back court and kept his rival on the run with steady ground strokes. Mirajkar was impressive in patches as he came up with some neat forehand winners, but he wilted as the tie dragged on with long rallies. In the under-16 final, Siddarth meets the top seed, S. Raghavendra who outplayed the third seed Harsha Manjunath 6-3, 6-3.

The top two seeds Shalaka Manjunath and Rachita Sarda set up a title clash in the girls’ under-16 singles and the two later combined to win the under-16 doubles title with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over S.P. Ritu and Preethi Gokhale. In the boys’ under-16 doubles final, Rohan Gaonkar and Pruthivka beat S. Raghavendra and Hemant Kumar 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4).

The results: Boys: Under-14 singles final: Sarthak Siddarth bt Evans Mirajkar 6-4, 7-5. Semifinals: Evans Mirajkar bt Nehal Agha 6-0, 6-0; Sarthak Siddarth bt K. Basavaraj 6-2, 6-2.

Under-16 singles semifinals: S. Raghavendra bt Harsha Manjunath 6-1, 6-1; Sarthak Siddarth bt Nikhil Prasad 6-1, 6-0. Doubles final: Roahan Gaonkar & Pruthvika bt S.raghavendra & Hemanth Kumar 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4).

Girls: Under-14 singles semifinals: Preethi Gokhale bt Shloka Kumar 6-0, 6-1; S.P. Ritu bt Shruthi Prasad 6-0, 6-2.

Under-16 singles semifinals: Shalaka Manjunath bt S.P. Ritu 7-5, 6-3; Rachita Sarda bt Vidya Bharath 6-0, 6-3. Doubles final: Shalaka & Rachita bt S.P. Ritu & Preethi Gokhale 6-0, 6-4.
