SALEM: Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Singh has issued prohibitory orders in the city under section 41 (2) of City Police Act 1997. The order, in force from Dec 24 to Jan 8, 2009, mandates political parties and other organisations to seek prior permission from the Police Commissioner five days in advance to organise processions, public meetings, hunger strikes, demonstrations, agitations etc,. Applications received after the five-day deadline will not be entertained. However, weddings, sports events, funerals, religious functions and other such related activities would be exempted.
