Football tourney from tomorrow

TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi District Football Association (TDFA) under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu Football Association will conduct the 18th State Youth (under-21) Football Championship for the A.G. Subbaraman Trophy at the Teppakulam Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School from December 27 to January 5.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, TDFA secretary P. Ukramakali said that 26 district teams will participate in the tourney. “With some good sides taking part in the event, we expect the contest to be tough. It should be a treat to the fans,” he said, adding that entry for these matches is free.

He also expressed the hope that the Tiruchi team would come up with a good performance in the 10-day championship. “The players attended special coaching camp to fine tune their skills. They are ready to give their best shot.”

Mr. Ukramakali observed that the tournament would be a platform for the young footballers of Tiruchi to showcase their talent. District Collector T. Soundiah formally inaugurates the tournament on Saturday evening.
