Memorable spell by Murali

CHENNAI: Murali’s sensational spell of eight for three helped Times of India beat Group M by nine wickets in the Adclub-Sportstar Twenty20 cricket tournament here recently.

The scores: Sree Ram Builders 129 for nine in 20 overs lost to Brilliant Tutorials 130 for three in 16 overs (Sabeer 56 n.o., Rhaimadulla 37); Antares 193 for five in 16 overs (Harish 31, Logeswaran 51) bt Lintas India 95 for nine in 16 overs; Group M 43 in 12.5 overs (Murali eight for three) lost to Times of India 44 for one in 3.1 overs; Interface Communication 132 for eight in 20 overs (M. Gopi 52) lost to The Hindu ‘A’ 133 for six in 17 overs (K. Govindan 46); Disha Communication 65 in 18.3 overs lost to Sutherland Global 66 for two in 4.3 overs.

Aravind shines

M. Aravind’s 71 helped Sutherland snatch a two-run win over Force 1CC in a league match of the SSCA-Corporate Twenty20 tournament here recently.

The scores: Sutherland 158 for eight in 20 overs (M. Aravind 71) bt Force 1 CC 156 for nine in 20 overs (Rajkumar 72, Ramesh 44, Charles three for 23); Vepery CC 72 in 17.5 overs (Dharman three for 16, Hariharan three for 12) lost to Rsj 76 for two in nine overs

SSCA-premier Cup (30-overs league): Phoenix CC 167 for eight in 26 overs (P. Nagaraj 68, Debmalya Bhattacharya three for 30) lost to Samsan CC 171 for four in 24 overs (Ashish Tiwari 65, Piyush Khandelia 34).

Subramanian-Srinivasan duo wins

T. Subramanian and G. Srinivasan won the pairs event in the TNSC Club bridge event with a score of 64.58 per cent playing East-West. C. Mohankrishna and C. Vijayakumar won in the North-South direction with a score of 59.54 per cent.

Chess selections

The Chennai District Chess Association will conduct the district under-9, under-13 and senior rapid selection chess championships on December 27 and 28 at the Hall of Chess, Nehru Stadium. Only registered players of Chennai District Association can take part.

Boys and girls born on or after 1.1.2000 can take part in under-9 and 1.1.1996 for under-13. Competition in senior rapid section is open to all.

The entry fee for under-9 and 13 is Rs. 100 per player and for senior rapid it is Rs. 150 per player. The CDCA registration fee for the year 2008-09 is Rs. 60.

Easy for ABM Infotech

Jagan scored three goals and Gopinath and Anbu two each as ABM Infotech recorded a 9-2 win over Iqbal RC in a CHA first division hockey match here on Tuesday.

The results: ABM Infotech 9 (Gopinath 2, Jagan 3, Raja, KrishnSakumar, Anbu 2) bt Iqbal RC 2 (Khalender, Gurfan); Toronto HC w/o. St. George’s.

Chennai Open tickets

The sale of season tickets for the Chennai Open tennis championship to be held here from January 5, 2009 will begin on December 25.

While season tickets of Rs. 1,500, 1,000 and 500 denominations will be sold at the ticket counter at the Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Thursday, daily tickets will be sold from 10 a.m. on all days of the tournament, depending on the availability.

Ananthakrishnan-Venkatesh duo wins

Ananthakrishnan (14) and Venkatesh (23) won the Gnanodaya Trophy golf tournament at the Cosmo-TNGF course in Chennai recently. H.K. Woo (12) and I.A. Park (21) were runner-up.
